TetraNET secondments 2026

During the secondment under Work Package 3, Task 3.1, Tomas Tamulevičius from Kaunas University of Technology (KTU) was hosted at Instituto de Telecomunicações (IT) under the supervision of Jose Carlos Pedro, from 2026-06-27 to 2026-07-12, on a full-time basis. The stay aimed to contribute to the initial modelling framework development and data harmonization for ZnO tetrapod network (TN)-based neuromorphic devices, with the expected deliverable being an initial conceptual framework and methodological basis for ZnO TN modelling.

The researcher initiated a knowledge and methodology exchange on ZnO TN modelling and characterization, collected and harmonized experimental data available at KTU (structural and electronic properties), and prepared a conceptual framework for modelling ZnO TN behaviour under realistic conditions. This was supported by an initial screening of modelling approaches, including dynamical modelling, statistical physics, and data fitting methods. The researcher also established basic data handling and exchange principles, defined initial collaboration workflows with partners, and identified key modelling challenges and research priorities. The stay included participation in internal project meetings and technical discussions on modelling strategies and research planning.

Through this work, the researcher gained knowledge of modelling approaches for ZnO TNs in neuromorphic applications, acquired skills in integrating experimental data into modelling workflows, and deepened their understanding of statistical physics and data-driven modelling techniques, alongside best practices for data management in international research projects.

As a result, a conceptual basis for ZnO TN modelling was established, structured and harmonized datasets were prepared for future simulations, suitable modelling methodologies were identified, and initial collaboration and data exchange practices were defined – directly supporting the secondment’s purpose by laying the groundwork for systematic modelling and integration of experimental and computational work. For the project, this provided a structured starting point for ZnO TN modelling, ensured alignment between experimental data and modelling approaches, strengthened partner collaboration, and identified priority research directions for upcoming phases.
