Institute of Materials Science Hosts Sens4Corn Project Partner from Latvia

Important | 2025-08-21

Throughout the month of July, the Institute of Materials Science had the pleasure of hosting researcher Kristīne Irtiševa from the Institute of Agricultural Resources and Economics (AREI) in Latvia. The visit was part of the ongoing international collaboration within the Sens4Corn project. Ms. Irtiševa specializes in chemical technology, serves as an active member of the Latvian Young Scientists Association, is a co-founder of SIA HUMICO, and delivers educational lectures in schools focusing on STE(A)M disciplines.

Ms. Irtiševa delivered a comprehensive seminar to an engaged audience of our institute’s researchers and PhD students. Her presentation provided an overview of the wide-ranging scientific activities at AREI, an institution with over a century of history.

She detailed their primary research directions, which include:

  • Bioeconomy and sustainability, developing evidence-based solutions in partnership with industry.
  • Multidisciplinary agricultural research, covering crop breeding, soil quality, and the implementation of emerging technologies like sensor applications and drone-based monitoring.
  • Agricultural economics, with a focus on farm efficiency, policy impact assessment, and supply chains.

The extended visit was an excellent opportunity for in-depth knowledge exchange, strengthening the partnership between KTU’s Institute of Materials Science and AREI. We extend our sincere thanks to Kristīne for her insightful presentation and her contributions throughout the month. The institute looks forward to continuing this fruitful collaboration.
