KTU Researchers Contribute to NIBS2025 Conference Held in Historic Plön Castle

Important | 2025-12-03

Researchers from Kaunas University of Technology (KTU) made significant contributions at the Nanotechnology and Innovations in the Baltic Sea Region conference (NIBS2025), held from October 19–22, 2025, in the picturesque Plön Castle, Germany. This was already the seventh international event, and it was focused on nanoscience and nanotechnology, bringing together leading experts from across Europe and beyond.

KTU was not only among the active participants but also one of the co-organizers of the conference. Notably, Professor Sigitas Tamulevičius, Director of the Institute of Materials Science, served as a member of the scientific program committee together with colleagues from Kiel University, Southern Denmark University, and North European Initiative Nanotechnology (NINa).

Oral presentations from KTU researchers included:

  • Hasan Sarigul (Postdoctoral Fellowship), who presented “Seed-Mediated Growth of Anisotropic Gold Nanoparticles for Trace-Level SERS Detection” during Session 5: Smart and Composite Materials for Smart Devices.
  • Marjan Monshi (Fellowship), who presented “Graphene-Enhanced Plasmonic Arrays for Long-Term, Stable SERS Detection” as part of Session 7: Young Researcher Presentations.
  • Maziar Moussavi, who also presented in Session 7 on the topic “Beyond Absorbance: Rational Design of Plasmonic Gas Sensors by Optimizing Spectrally-Resolved Raman Enhancement Factor”.

Poster presentations on October 21st:

  • Gvidas Klyvis presented “Template-Assisted Assembly of Plasmonic Nanostructures for Lasing and Raman Enhancement”.
  • Muhammad Usman presented “Detection of trace amounts of antibiotics in human milk using computational analysis of label-free SERS spectra”.

The team’s active involvement highlights their strong research orientation and successful dissemination of knowledge within the international scientific community.
