On 22-26 August 2022, the 24th International Conference-School “Advanced Materials and Technologies” was traditionally organised in Palanga. The conference was characterised by a wealth of oral presentations: 23 lectures were delivered by speakers from Estonia, Denmark, Japan, the United Kingdom, the United States, Latvia, Lithuania, Malaysia and Germany.
Special attention was paid to Prof. Dr. Raymond C. Rumpf from the University of Texas at El Paso.
He gave 3 talks over the course of the conference. During his first two talks participants of the Conference-School learned both about the basics of computational electromagnetics and photonics as well as about the leading edge advancements in electromagnetics and photonics enabled by breakthroughs in 3D printing & two-photon polymerization and achieved by his laboratory “EMLab”. The third talk was specifically intended for the students and young researchers of the Conference-School – the professor shared his experience and practical advice on how to start and maintain an awesome career. The professor’s visit to the Conference was part of the “Baltic-American Dialogue” program. This program is made possible by funding from the Baltic-American Freedom Foundation (BAFF). The conference-school was organised by Institute of Materials Science of Kaunas University of Technology, Lithuanian Materials Research Society, Vilnius University, University of Latvia, Riga Technical University, University of Tartu, Center for Physical Sciences and Technology, University of Southern Denmark, and Applied Research Institute for Prospective Technologies.
This event is an excellent training ground for developing the general and specific skills of PhD students and young researchers, as well as for developing productive international cooperation.
