Institutes Scientists Internship in Japan

Important | 2018-11-14

Dr. Domantas Peckus from October 1st till November 1st, 2018 had the internship at the institute of NIMS (National Institute for Material Science), the department of MANA (Materials Nanoarchitectonics), Mesoscale Materials Chemistry Group, in the city of Tsukuba, Japan. The visit was a part of postdoctoral fellowship – during this project the internship in a foreign research institution that corresponds to the topic “Synthesis and investigation of electrooptical properties of UV region plasmonic aluminium nanostructures by means of ultrafast spectroscopy methods” is necessary. Al nanoparticles were synthesized by means of various colloid chemistry methods under supervision of experienced scientist dr. Joel Henzie. The synthesis of pure Al nanoparticles is a quite complicated task because of high chemical activity of Al, that is why scientific community has not explored it in detail so far. During the internship at NIMS, some high quality Al nanoparticles were prepared. These samples were brought back to the Institute of Materials Science for further investigations by means of ultrafast spectroscopy and materials analysis methods like SEM, EDS, XRD and XPS.

During the visit new connections with foreign scientists have been established, the new chemical synthesis methods of Al nanoparticles was acquired, the experience of collaboration with foreign scientist and scientific institutions was received.

On October 31st at NIMS MANA dr. Domantas Peckus have presented the invited talk about transient absorption spectroscopy and its applications: „Transient absorption spectroscopy—its principles and applications in the study of organic semiconductors, graphene and plasmonics“.
