At the E-MRS Fall Meeting 2026, Muhammad Haris, a PhD Student at the Kaunas University of Technology (KTU) Institute of Materials Science, received the European Young Researcher Award 2026.

The recognition was awarded for the presentation titled “Hybrid-ZnO Tetrapods Based Plasmonic Heterostructure for Enhanced Green Hydrogen Generation.” Conducted within the framework of the global TETRANET project (HORIZON-MSCA-2025-SE-01), the research investigates nanoscale heterostructures designed to improve solar-driven hydrogen production efficiency.

The work was conducted under the academic supervision of Prof. Habil. Dr. Sigitas Tamulevičius and Dr. Simas Račkauskas from the KTU Institute of Materials Science, in collaboration with Dr. Syeda Ammara Shabir from Forman Christian College (A Chartered University) in Lahore.

This presentation forms part of broader doctoral research focused on the “Synergistic Integration of Different Two-Dimensional Structures with Ordered and Disordered Plasmonic Nanostructures for Green Hydrogen Generation by Photoelectrochemical Water Splitting.” The investigation aims to optimize light-harvesting kinetics and develop functional nanomaterials for scalable clean energy applications.
