Sens4Corn Project Seminar: Advancing Smart and Sustainable Agriculture

Important | 2026-09-30

On 31 August 2026, the Institute of Materials Science hosted a seminar organized within the framework of the Sens4Corn project. Researchers and students from the Institute of Agricultural Resources and Economics (AREI, Latvia) and the Latvia University of Life Sciences and Technologies (LBTU) presented their latest research activities and developments in agricultural technologies, remote sensing, nanosensors, and precision agriculture.

The seminar highlighted innovative approaches that support the transition towards smarter and more sustainable agricultural practices. Participants had the opportunity to learn about current research trends and technological solutions aimed at improving agricultural productivity, resource efficiency, and environmental sustainability.

The following presentations were delivered during the seminar:

  • Current Agrotechnological Research at the Institute of Agricultural Resources and Economics
    Maira Jankovska, Acting Assistant, Agro-Ecological Research Group, Institute of Agricultural Resources and Economics, Priekuļi Research Centre;
  • Drones and Nanosensors in Agriculture
    Liga Rolava, Student, Geoinformatics and Remote Sensing Programme, Latvia University of Life Sciences and Technologies;
  • From Nanoscale Sensing to Precision Agriculture
    Dr. agr. Livija Zarina, Senior Researcher, Institute of Agricultural Resources and Economics; Head of the Agroecology Scientific Group.

The event provided a valuable platform for discussing recent advances in smart agriculture and exploring opportunities for further collaboration among the project partners. The seminar also encouraged knowledge exchange between researchers and students working in the fields of precision farming, sensor technologies, and sustainable agricultural development.

International events such as this contribute to strengthening scientific cooperation and fostering innovation within the Sens4Corn project and beyond.
